  WHAT HAPPENED?

  On Thursday, Eriksson announced to the public that he had received a terminal cancer diagnosis earlier. The Swede estimated that, in the "best case," he might not have much longer than a year left to live. Before spending a season as manager of Manchester City, Eriksson guided England to the quarterfinals of three major tournaments during his tenure as manager from 2001 to 2006.

  The Spaniard said to club media: "[He's] a true gentleman… it’s really sad news. I admire the courage to explain the situation. He’ll be with his loved ones… Of course, all of us have huge support… anything we can do, we will do it."

  The former Man City boss received a lot of support from the footballing world after his revelation regarding the diagnosis and the timeline for the cancer. From 1997 until 2001, Eriksson enjoyed a trophy-filled tenure at Lazio. He won several trophies, such as the Serie A championship in 2000, the European Cup Winners' Cup (1999), and the Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup in 1998 and 2000, respectively.
